How To - Add the "Genie" And "Window Effects" to Ubuntu
One thing I noticed is that Ubuntu no longer has GUI effects. Those effects came standard with Compiz; however, Ubuntu went back to GNOME a while ago. While not essential to the OS, GUI effects make the OS experience just a little bit more fun.
First, open “Software and Updates.” Then, make sure the “Community-maintained” Universe is selected. See the screenshot.
Once that is done, you will need to run this command and reboot:
sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-manager
reboot
Once that is done you can visit this site and install these two plugins:
When you visit each of the links I provided near the top of the page, you will see something like this:
You must click on the “Install” button. Although the error message at the top of the page appears to be incorrect, the installation will still work. When you click the install button, follow the instructions to complete the installation.
